I wanted to put this into journal format rather than Status Update format. :3
(Also found out journal skins don't work great with Eclipse. :/)
FIRST of all, I know a lot of you guys are leaving Deviantart because of Eclipse, and everyone else is posting their other social medias, sooooo... Here are all mine, I guess. : D
I'm not leaving DA because this is the only place I post art regularly, and it's the best place to post art in my opinion, even with Eclipse. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I just might be less active because using Eclipse is super frustrating. (Even though I'm barely active already, ha ha.) Anyway, now I'm gonna rant.
Ooohhhh boy. NOW I'm convinced 2020 is the absolute worst year. I DO NOT want to be forced to use Eclipse. >:c I tried to have a positive outlook on it at first. You know, they're still working on it, and the site has to update at some point. But there's almost nothing I like about Eclipse:
-The design is too huge and simplified and awful to look at compared to this version of DA (it feels more like...a mobile app rather than a website, which I hate.)
-Eclipse is really slow and laggy.
-There's WAY less customization options for your profile than there is now. (I checked out my profile on Eclipse, and it looks awfullllll! I don't want to get rid of all my cool profile stuff!) (I have to say that the lack of profile customization is what I'm most angry about.)
-You can't use code on the custom boxes anymore; you have to use this dumb simplified version, where there's a pop-up box every time you want to add a picture or something... It just feels really stiff and ruins the creative aspect of designing your profile.
-There's almost no point in getting Core now because most of the Core features are either available for all users or aren't available at all anymore, like live notifications, custom boxes, etc. And I have 8 months of Core membership left. :c
-This is a small thing, but it's a really important feature for me. I really like how you can drag deviations into a favorites bar at the top? Like, even if you're not on the devation's page, you can drag it into any of your favorite groups from anywhere. And Eclipse doesn't have that, which makes it a lot more complicated to add deviations to favorites folders unless you're on the deviation's page.
-The notifications page is bad and confusing. I don't like it. >:c (I'm overusing that emoticon.)
Aaand there are plenty of other things, but that's all I can think of at the moment.
Basically, I feel like DA is getting rid of practically EVERYTHING that makes it a unique and fun website to use. Lots of people have said it looks like a copy of Art Station, and I have to agree. In my opinion, I think if DA wanted to update the site, that's understandable - it needs to be updated every so often! But this is a HUGE jump that most people on the site aren't ready for. It looks nothing like the DA we're used to. I honestly think if the staff really wanted Eclipse to be a thing that's accepted by most users, they should have slowly worked up to it with little updates to the site throughout the years (like, change the design just a little each time so it's easier to get used to) rather than just throwing this at us all at once. Plus, there are still a whole lot of problems with Eclipse that ruin the site. Of course, I don't know everything there is to know about websites and design and all that jazz, but this seems ridiculous to me, and I hate it. >:c
Anyway, I know a lot of people are going to leave DA once Eclipse becomes a thing, but I don't have any other social media accounts where I post art regularly. I mean, I have Instagram and Amino, but it's my personal Instagram, and Amino is just for fanart and isn't the best place to post art. So I probably won't leave. But I don't know how long I'll be able to deal with using Eclipse, lol. I'll probably get used to it eventually, but I'll seriously miss the old site. This is my absolute favorite website, and my favorite place to look at and post art, because it's such a unique and creative place. The design DA has now seems almost perfect to me, and I don't understand why they have to COMPLETELY change it, especially with half the users expressing how much they hate Eclipse. If there's any way to prevent Eclipse from becoming permanent, I'm definitely on board, soooooooo...
That's all I have to say, thank you. :3 Sorry for the long journal.
